This is our good friend Right and his wife Zelibha. Right has been instrumental in helping us organize this trip. He has become a good friend to our team before we ever met face to face.
Juba is trying to build an infrastructure and one of the tasks is cutting roads. With a growth from 300,000 to 1.5 million in just a few years, houses are everywhere and the government needs to evict some so that roads can be cut for future development. Last month the government came through Right's neighborhood with a bulldozer and cut roads, demolishing houses along the way. Rights house was a casualty.
It seems so strange to us that the government could just plow over your home and not compensate you or give you warning. We were afraid that this would end Rights ability to continue helping our team as he his wife and 4 children were homeless and sleeping outside. Believe it or not, it only takes $400 to buy the materials to build a new home. The team felt so strongly to help Right that we wired him the money. He was able to finish his house and join the team!
Right has worked many hours for the team and is going with us for the 10 days and has never asked for any compensation. We are so happy to help him out.
This is an ecumenical project between the churches in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to provide fresh clean drinking water for the village of Kalalayi in Southern Sudan and the surrounding villages.
Welcome
Welcome to the “In Search of Water” blog site! Here you will see the chronicled events of the project leading up to the team’s departure from the United States and then daily while the team is in Africa. Feel free to comment on the posts as it is a great encouragement to the team and a great way to share in the experience together.
